Not at all. Each spec of Warlock uses demons. However, you need to know which demon to use with which spec. For Demonology, the demon that works best is the Felguard, with Affliction you want to use the Felhound and with Destruction, you need to use the imp. The reasoning behind these combinations is that each specific demon works with a particular spec to bring buffs, etc. For instance, the Felguard is only available for Demonology and does wonderful AoE damage. The Demonology spec is AoE based (with immolation aura and the ability to walk while channeling hellfire) and as such, the best combination is the Felguard. With destruction, you use a spell called Soul Fire to provide a buff to your destruction based damage. On of the imp's abilities is to give you a instant Soul Fire proc when he hits with a critical strike. So being able to turn a long cast time spell into an instant is great for overall damage.
