As far as the cross-realm raiding is concerned, you can group up with people via RealID across realms and then join the raid finder queue. You cannot convert the group to a raid before going in, so you'll have to have an ilvl of 372 to join the raid queue and it's only available for the Dragon Soul raid, but there may be changes in later patches. I know Zarhym hinted at changing some things up so that you are able to convert a group to a raid in later patches - thereby allowing the group to do older raids and not just the latest raids via the raid finder (which is also only 25man btw).
