Back in the day, (long before I was diagnosed) I had always wanted to donate blood but never could because I was underweight, you had to be at least 100lbs! Now I am double that (and doubly old lol) but can't donate because I have the Immune Deficiency and I need the plasma in the IVIG to give me the B cell antibodies that my own body can not make enough of. As far as helping others, it sure sounds like although you may not be able to give blood you give of yourself and help others in so many other ways. I have no idea about the Hep antibodies, I would think the Hep antibodies would mean a resistance to Hepatitis. Lab work is very difficult to interpret and genetics are even more complicated. No one I know in my family has this Immune Deficiency, (for those wondering the name of the disease I have is Hypogammaglobulinemia) however my mother had MS so they surmise that I got the gene for this disease from my mother as MS is an auto immune disease. They just really don't know, even in this day and age genetics is still in it's infancy. Karen Sometimes I think I understand everything, then I regain consciousness. -------Original Message------- From: Maribeth Schneider Date: 5/31/2012 5:55:22 AM Subject: Re: [World_of_Warcraft_List] new toon - Qesaiya , my undeadwarlock :) I would love to donate blood but I can't :( They said my blood has hepatitis antibodies - go figure since I have never had hepatitis in my life. However I did work in a mentally retarded facility and there were 4 carriers of it. With the antibodies, does that mean I am a carrier? How would I become a carrier if I never had it. Sorry don't mean to get carried away lol but it does hurt I can't donate as I love to help others. Maribeth | ||
