Thank you much :) Ok noob questions here what do you mean by tier 1, 2, etc - Alastyr is level 78 so far but has been doing dungeons. He does not have tier gear yet if that is what you mean? ;)
What do I need to concentrate on at level 78 to get his dps up?

Hey Shane, here's that blurb I mentioned in-game. Hope it helps!
A quick overview of the Destruction spec.
- Talents:
Must haves - Tier 1: Bane, Shadow and Flame, Improved Immolate. Tier 2: Improved Soul Fire, Emberstorm Tier 3: Aftermath, Backdraft Tier 4: Burning Embers, Soul Leech, Tier 5: Fire and Brimstone, Tier 6: Empowered Imp, Bane of Havoc Tier 7: Chaos Bolt. The other talents are of personal preference (see below).
For the rest of your points, Improved Corruption, Improved Life Tap and Doom and Gloom in the Affliction tree are all nice ways to up your dps and get more out of your Life Tap. Dark Arts and Demonic Embrace out of the Demonology tree are okay, but once you get into tier 11 gear, the points in Dark Arts are wasted as the amount of haste we will have will cap the speed of our imp's firebolt anyway. Demonic Embrace is a nice way to up your mana pool as well seeing as more hp = more mana through Life Tap. Just remember to drain life after tapping so you don't piss off/freak out your healer.
Now to get to the 6th tier, you can take either Shadowburn, Shadowfury, Backlash or Nether Ward. If you are raiding, you shouldn't be getting hit very often, so I would suggest Shadowfury as #1 and Shadowburn as #2 choice here. Shadow burn is nice to get back shards quickly, but Shadowfury is a lovely CC talent. To get to the 7th tier, I would suggest picking up Shadowburn and Nether Ward for a quick shield for those cases in which you weren't watching the threat meter.
- Always use the imp, he provides a nice health buff for the raid and with the empowered imp talent, he helps you proc instant soulfires.
- Rotation is tricky, there's not really a set rotation for any warlock spec, it's more an order of importance... For destro:
Cast Soulfire 1st to get the haste bonus (from improved soul fire), then start with bane of doom, immolate, corruption, conflagrate, chaos bolt and incinerate spam... that's the easy part. Next, just watch for your DoTs to fall off, when they have about 1-2 seconds left on them, recast immolate and corruption. Wait for bane of doom to fall off completely before recasting, and cast Chaos Bolt whenever it's off cooldown. On boss fights, cast your doomguard (for solo damage, Infernal for AoE) whenever it works best (usually during a burn phase). Whenever you proc the instant soulfire (the huge fiery brackets around your toon), cast it immediately. Use the soulburn+soulfire combo early in the fight (after your improved soulfire buff wears off unless you procced an instant soulfire and renewed the buff, then you would use it for the first time after refreshing your DoTs) and then again when soulburn is off of cooldown.
It's quite a lot to keep on top of, and takes practice to keep an eye on Immolate and Corruption to refresh them just before they drop off. I suggest using a DoT timer... I have a warlock addon called Necrosis (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/necrosis-ld-c.aspx) it's in a beta version for Cataclysm, but works ok. It has a DoT timer with it that works for me.
- Glyphs: Prime - Glyph of Immolate, Glyph of Conflagrate and Glyph of Incinerate. Major - personal preference, I like Life Tap, Healthstone and Soulstone here, Minor - again personal preference, I have Unending Breath, Drain Soul and Ritual of Souls.
- As far as looking for stats for gear/gems/enchants once we're up to raiding at level 85, look for hit first, then intellect, then Destro's best attribute to stack is Haste if you can reach the soft caps (852, 1406 or 2030) if you can't reach one of those caps with haste, then the next best attribute is mastery, crit is really more important for Demo than Destro, so avoid gemming or enchanting for crit.
- If you're into PVP, Destro is pretty fun in the BGs also. I always use the Voidwalker as he has the Sacrifice spell to give you a shield, but the Felhound and Succubus are good for CC as well. One of the best spells in your arsenal as destro for PVP is Shadowfury, use it frequently. This spell is also nice in raids for instances when you need to stun something (the blood beasts for the Deathbringer Saurfang fight in ICC for example).
Have fun melting faces!
