Pre-BC: (in no particular order)
- Westfall: Great scenery. Tranquil, majestic colors that really bring out the atmosphere. Music that fits the zone, as well as being calming. Great story behind it, with the Defias Brotherhood and all that. Loved every moment here.
-Loch Modan: The change in scenery from Dun Morogh to here, the Valley of Kings, and the Dam all make this place great. Kind of large, and the previously elite ogres in the northeast made me cry when I was first leveling, but I like the zone all in all.
-Tanaris: Incredible. The rolling hills, pirate coves, Silithid hives (the Silithid are my favorite race and lore in the game), sand trolls, Bronze dragons, and so much make Tanaris one of the most beautiful places in Azeroth. I remember swimming here from Theramore at level 32 with a friend, to get the flight path and head to Thousand Needles. I was awestruck once I got into Steamwheedle Port and saw the size of this place.
-Silithus (my personal favorite): Again, the Silithid storyline is my favorite one in the game. No other lore has captivated me the way Silithid lore has, so questing here was incredibly fun. I fondly remember spending hours out here farming the Twilight Camps to summon the Abyssal Templars, Dukes, and even a Lord or two. AQ20 is also one of my favorite instances in the game.
-Feralas: The scenery and topography here is beyond incredible. The hills, cliffs, valleys, lakes, and the huge forest itself promoted a great atmosphere here. The Twin Colossals and the Dream Portal added to this, despite me dying at the portal to Level ?? Dragonkin (Elite) mobs destroying me.
-The Hinterlands: Peaceful, serene, tranquil...all of these words can describe this place leveling up. The creatures here really add to it. The troll lore was pretty cool also, and seeing Emeriss here at level 42 from a distance really was a shock.
-Dun Morogh: My favorite of the starting zones. Snow-covered vast expanses with gorges, hills, frozen lakes, and mountains everywhere really made me go "Whoa." the first time I came out of Coldridge Valley. Sad that I'll never get to experience that again. =(
-Moonglade: Another very tranquil zone with a lot of lore behind it. It was kind of boring to me until I found out about the Eranikus event, and set one up for my Green Shard a couple of months ago. Great event; I'm only sad I missed the original event on my server due to not owning the game at that point in time.
Honorable mentions: Tirisfal Glades, Elwynn Forest, Duskwood, Stranglethorn Vale, Un'goro Crater, The Barrens.
Burning Crusade:
Eastern Hellfire Peninsula: Stepping out of the Dark Portal for the first time was awesome. The shattered landscape, the demons surging forward to the portal, the defenders rallying to hold them back, and the place itself were cool. The rest of the zone wasn't so spectacular though.
Nagrand: The best, by far, of all the Burning Crusade zones. Vast expanses of green lands, with valleys and floating rocks where water magically appears into a waterfall. Great soundtrack to go with it too. +1 for Blizzard on it.
